Creating memories & friendships for life

THE RIVERS HISTORY

Rivers was first established in beautiful Bellingen over 25 years ago by former owner and principal dancer Antonia Erskine. Antonia moved to Bellingen with her family in 1985, establishing Rivers Ballet Studio the following year from the Lodge 241 building, and later built her own studio at Bowra St, where we continue to also hold our ballet classes. Antonia wished to give a welcoming and inclusive place for dance classes for young people's recreational interest and simultaneously to provide a strong foundation in dance techniques for a professional career if desired. With the development of the studio, Antonia felt privileged to share in the artistic and creative life in Bellingen with the Studio's broad range of dance classes & by becoming involved in community events with concerts highlighting the artistry and cultural heritage of classical ballet and National dance as well as current popular styles.

Later, Peter Stock became Co- principal and brought to the school his expertise in Broadway jazz & cabaret dance styles. He was also well recognized for his amazing contribution to the male dance community with his world renowned ‘Stamping Ground Dance Festival’ that was held for 9 consecutive years and generated hundreds of dancers to Bellingen.
